There are a few tips to keep in mind when using our wooden rattan canes. They are light weight and durable if used correctly. If not used correctly though, you can break them in a hurry.
Keep in mind each cane will have a slightly crooked appearance and may look different from other rattan wooden canes. This is because every batch of wood is different and indicates the differences you find in nature.
- Don't strike with the very tip of the cane; the tips will break off
Instead, move your strike zone up the cane about 5" from the bottom. This will ensure smooth impact and even distribution of force.
- Don't try strike the canes through the air with heavy force
Not having a target to dissipate the energy can over stress the handle causing the cane to break right at the handle
- They are not designed for striking directly on bone (i.e. the shin, knee cap, etc.)
Again, the energy has to go somewhere, if it's not being absorbed by area like the butt, back, legs, etc. then you can have the handle or tip get over stressed and will break. Wood on bone directly is not a good caning technique and will not absorb the same way that non bone areas of the body will.
